When the daughters of an antique dealer and an astrophysicist meet, they indulge in their natural urge to tell stories. Designers Marie Macon and Anne-Laure Lesquoy do exactly this with their collection of amazing hand embroidered jewellery since 2009.
By distorting the process of embroidery, they both imagined small jewels allowing to mend our moth-eaten cashmere sweaters, stained trench-coats, and all the other sentimental items in our closets we cannot resolve to get rid of.
Inspired by the precision and quality of military badges (bullion stitch), the jewellery is hand-embroidered in Pakistan in cannetille on felt (cannetille is a fine gold or silver thread twisted spirally that is used in embroidery) and then fitted to a pin, necklace, hair clip or headband. Their brooch designs are innovative with humour, eccentric, sometimes unconventional, yet always stylish.
