Mushroom Drawing & Plant-Based Supper Club
20th November 2019 | Hackney Coffee Company | 6.30pm - 10.00pm
Join us for an evening celebrating our mycelium friends – mushrooms! As the days begin to draw in, mushrooms begin to make a reappearance in seasonal dishes – whether the moreish morilles or elegant chanterelles. With plant-based diets becoming an ever-more viable and urgent option to curb the climate crisis, Eastern Biological believes that mushrooms deserve to take centre stage.
The event will begin with a drawing class led by Jennie Webber of Wild Life Drawing. Jennie will guide you through how to draw various mushrooms, and on hand will be an expert mycologist who'll talk us through the myriad species of fungi and their natural history.
The drawing workshop will then be followed by a vegan supper club. Mushrooms will be the star ingredient over the course of an east Asian inspired four-course menu, devised and cooked by chef and food stylist Rukmini Iyer: author of bestselling cookbooks The Roasting Tin and The Green Roasting Tin. Rukmini will also be giving short talks about her dishes and preparation methods between courses.
This is a unique opportunity to see the variety of mushrooms on offer: they’re much more exciting than the average 200g supermarket punnet of chestnut mushrooms wrapped in clingfilm!
